Bump, Set, Spike!

Volleyball season is coming soon (or already here for some). Do you have the right gear?

We just wanted to take a brief moment to share some tips for this season so you can bump, set and spike your way to victory.

Tip #1
Volleyball shoes are not the same as running, training or basketball shoes. While volleyball shoes usually look very similar to other styles of athletic shoes, especially running and training shoes, they are constructed to specifically help you perform better on the court. The outsole on a volleyball shoe is made from a gum rubber sole material which will give you better traction on the gym floor. In a volleyball shoe, the midsole support is in the ball of the foot and allows for lateral movement instead of forward movement.

Tip #2
Volleyball shoes are not meant to be worn off of the court. Gum rubber is a soft material. If you wear them on abrasive surfaces, the soles will wear out very quickly, and you probably won't make it through the season with just the one pair of shoes.

Tip #3
Volleyball shoes are not meant to last longer than one season under regular wear. If it is worn almost every day out of the week for practices or games, you will most likely not get more than one season out of them.

Tip #4
If the sides by the ankle become weaker and you lose traction in the shoe, it is time to replace them.

Tip #5
Volleyball shoes should fit snug, not tight to the foot. You should not be able to move your foot inside the shoe, even though the shoe is flexible enough to move with you. A finger width should be what is between the tip of your toes and the tip of the shoe.

Now that you know a little bit more about how your shoes should fit and how they differ from other shoes, take a look at our selection of womens volleyball shoes.

Do you have more tips to share? What are some of your favorite volleyball shoes that we sell?

Touchdown!

Back to school shopping means that Fall is right around the corner, and Fall means that it is time for some FOOTBALL! We carry a range of football cleats for boys and men, so you're sure to find the perfect pair for them to play under the Friday night lights. Before buying a pair of football cleats, there are a few things to keep in mind including the style of the shoe, the type of cleats and the materials the shoes are made of. We may not be able to teach you how to get a touchdown, but we can teach you how to get the right cleats.

Style

There are 3 different styles of football cleats: high-tops, mid-cut and low-cut. High-tops feature a taller collar shaft, which will provide you with more support during lateral movement. Typically, linemen benefit from the purchase of a high-top styled shoe. A mid-cut cleat style will give you increased ankle support without restricting your movement, making it perfect for positions such as defensive backs, running backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers. A low-cut cleat style gives you a lightweight fit. This style will provide you with the ability to move easily and change movements rapidly.

Cleats

There are 2 different kinds of cleats: molded and detachable. The type of cleat that is right for you depends primarily on the type of surface you're going to be playing on the most. A molded cleat is permanently attached to the shoe. Molded rubber is typically used on turf shoes to give better spring to the step. A detachable cleat features studs that can be removed, allowing you to replace them if they break, or change them out when you switch field surfaces. Shorter studs work best with dry or hard surfaces, and longer studs work best for wet or squishy fields.

Material

Finally, the material the upper portion of the shoe is made of should be taken into consideration. Football cleats are typically made from either leather or a synthetic material. Leather allows your feet to breathe better and provides more flexibility. Leather is more durable, but that comes with a price. A synthetic material helps cut the cost of the shoes, but doesn't give you quite as much ability for the feet to breathe or durability. Synthetic materials can be found on almost all shoes as accents and areas for support.

Fit tips

Football cleats should fit tightly. Not so tight that you feel like the the hulk when he gets angry, but tight enough so that you can experience all the benefits and support a football cleat provides. If it isn't comfortable when you first put it on, odds are they're probably never going to be comfortable enough. The shoes will break in a little bit, but not much. After purchasing a new pair of cleats, it's important to break them in slowly, as to not irritate your feet. Start by wearing them in around the house for a bit. When you're sure you've found the right ones, it's time to take them to the field! You'll want to make sure to only wear them for a fraction of practice to begin with, and slowly increase the time you wear them until you work your way up to wearing them all practice.

Now that you know how to pick them, it's time to start shopping! You can see our whole selection of boys and girls football cleats at our website; we carry a variety of brands and styles including Adidas, Nike, Under Armour and Reebok.

Time for Gym Class!

Back to school shopping can be some of the most stressful shopping you do. We're going to make the shoe portion of your back to school shopping easy. No required numbers of pairs, no required colors, no required styles. The most popular styles of shoes for back to school include athletic shoes for boys and girls and casual shoes for boys and girls. We've picked a couple of our favorites for both boys and girls to help ease the shopping experience.

Let's start with athletic shoes. Sometimes you'll find yourself needing to purchase a couple of pairs of athletic style shoes for each kid, as some schools require special gym shoes, plus they'll need new athletic styles for every-day wear. Below are a couple options for both boys and girls in athletic styles from our new arrivals. What do you think?

Boys Skechers Nitrate Running Shoes

These shoes provide him with a fun look for back to school. The brand name insures comfort, as these shoes have a memory foam insole. He'll definitely be excited to lace up for gym class or pop them on to catch the bus in the morning with the electric colors.

Boys Adidas Vigor Tr 4 Running Shoes

This pair of sneakers is great for your active son. Again, this shoe is perfect for use as an everyday shoe or especially for gym. With two color choice, this red one, or a blue option, you'll find the shoe that is just right for him. The fun tread pattern that somewhat resembles a creepy crawly, is sure to excite him.

Boys Fila Approach Running Shoes

If your son likes things a little bit more classic and simple, this shoe might be a great option. The classic black and white is accented by pops of cherry red in the laces and the outsole. This shoe is a running style of athletic shoe, but is very versatile in its use.

Girls Fila Tempo Running Shoes

To start out the run of girls shoes, you might want to consider the new Fila Tempo Running Shoes. This shoe features accents in a fun, girly blue, while keeping up with the classic style of a running shoe. She will be excited to wear this for gym class or to walk the halls of the school.

Girls Adidas Vigor TR 6 Running Shoes

To add some functional style that she will love to her wardrobe, you might want to give these shoes a try. The different color blocked sections of pinks, coral, purple and black is sure to put her in the mood to run off some energy in gym class or catch the bus with her best friends in the morning. With a brand like Adidas, you know you're getting a quality product, and with this color combination, you know she's going to love it.

Girls Asics Pre Contend 3 Running Shoes

Waking up early for school will definitely be something that she looks forward to with the bright purple, pink and green of this shoe. She won't have to worry about stopping to tie her shoes throughout the day when the lacing system consists of elastic laces to give the great fit she needs, and a hook and loop closure strap to keep her foot securely in place. (Pssst. This shoe comes in a boys style too.)

Those Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer

Got back to school shopping on the brain? While retail stores fill their shelves with pencils, markers, notebooks and binders, you may start to think that summer is almost over. Wrong! There is still plenty of sun to be soaked up and fun to be had.

Puma Narita V2 Running Shoes

This shoe screams summer fun to us. Just because it is a running shoe doesn't mean you have to go running in it. The pretty pastel teal and pink combined with the fun, textured white creates a look that somewhat resembles some kind of ice cream truck or something, right? In all seriousness though, this shoe is a perfect choice to pair with your summer wardrobe, or to wear to the gym. We love this shoe. This is perfect for a trip to the zoo, running errands, working out or a day at an amusement park.

Isola Carlota Dress Shoe

Have a nice dinner that you have to attend, but it's blistering hot out? Try a shoe that provides you with tons of ventilation. (Plus it will show off your killer pedicure that you just got at the salon, or gave yourself with our DIY pedicure suggestions...) This shoe offers a mixture of colors and textures that will make any sun dress look even more amazing. This style would also be great for wearing to the office with a dress or even some dress pants!

Clarks Perri Coast Sandals

Needing to get some errands done with the kids? Try a comfortable, cute sandal. This sandal is available in two different colors and will allow you to tackle your way through your to-do list without having to sacrifice style. You can dress this sandal up with jean shorts and a fun top on a trip to the mall, or wear it with your running shorts and t shirt as you head to the grocery store. The padded footbed helps to make sure you're going to stay on your feet all day!

Have some women's shoes that you've been wearing all summer? What are they? We would love to hear.

Still shopping for some women's summer shoes to finish up your fun, but these three don't light your fancy? You can see our whole selection of womens shoes here: www.rogansshoes.com
