Bump, Set, Spike!

Volleyball season is coming soon (or already here for some). Do you have the right gear?

We just wanted to take a brief moment to share some tips for this season so you can bump, set and spike your way to victory.

Tip #1
Volleyball shoes are not the same as running, training or basketball shoes. While volleyball shoes usually look very similar to other styles of athletic shoes, especially running and training shoes, they are constructed to specifically help you perform better on the court. The outsole on a volleyball shoe is made from a gum rubber sole material which will give you better traction on the gym floor. In a volleyball shoe, the midsole support is in the ball of the foot and allows for lateral movement instead of forward movement.

Tip #2
Volleyball shoes are not meant to be worn off of the court. Gum rubber is a soft material. If you wear them on abrasive surfaces, the soles will wear out very quickly, and you probably won't make it through the season with just the one pair of shoes.

Tip #3
Volleyball shoes are not meant to last longer than one season under regular wear. If it is worn almost every day out of the week for practices or games, you will most likely not get more than one season out of them.

Tip #4
If the sides by the ankle become weaker and you lose traction in the shoe, it is time to replace them.

Tip #5
Volleyball shoes should fit snug, not tight to the foot. You should not be able to move your foot inside the shoe, even though the shoe is flexible enough to move with you. A finger width should be what is between the tip of your toes and the tip of the shoe.

Now that you know a little bit more about how your shoes should fit and how they differ from other shoes, take a look at our selection of womens volleyball shoes.

Do you have more tips to share? What are some of your favorite volleyball shoes that we sell?

Back to school shopping means that Fall is right around the corner, and Fall means that it is time for some FOOTBALL! We carry a range of football cleats for boys and men, so you're sure to find the perfect pair for them to play under the Friday night lights. Before buying a pair of football cleats, there are a few things to keep in mind including the style of the shoe, the type of cleats and the materials the shoes are made of. We may not be able to teach you how to get a touchdown, but we can teach you how to get the right cleats.

There are 3 different styles of football cleats: high-tops, mid-cut and low-cut. High-tops feature a taller collar shaft, which will provide you with more support during lateral movement. Typically, linemen benefit from the purchase of a high-top styled shoe. A mid-cut cleat style will give you increased ankle support without restricting your movement, making it perfect for positions such as defensive backs, running backs, quarterbacks and wide receivers. A low-cut cleat style gives you a lightweight fit. This style will provide you with the ability to move easily and change movements rapidly.

There are 2 different kinds of cleats: molded and detachable. The type of cleat that is right for you depends primarily on the type of surface you're going to be playing on the most. A molded cleat is permanently attached to the shoe. Molded rubber is typically used on turf shoes to give better spring to the step. A detachable cleat features studs that can be removed, allowing you to replace them if they break, or change them out when you switch field surfaces. Shorter studs work best with dry or hard surfaces, and longer studs work best for wet or squishy fields.

Finally, the material the upper portion of the shoe is made of should be taken into consideration. Football cleats are typically made from either leather or a synthetic material. Leather allows your feet to breathe better and provides more flexibility. Leather is more durable, but that comes with a price. A synthetic material helps cut the cost of the shoes, but doesn't give you quite as much ability for the feet to breathe or durability. Synthetic materials can be found on almost all shoes as accents and areas for support.

Fit tips

Football cleats should fit tightly. Not so tight that you feel like the the hulk when he gets angry, but tight enough so that you can experience all the benefits and support a football cleat provides. If it isn't comfortable when you first put it on, odds are they're probably never going to be comfortable enough. The shoes will break in a little bit, but not much. After purchasing a new pair of cleats, it's important to break them in slowly, as to not irritate your feet. Start by wearing them in around the house for a bit. When you're sure you've found the right ones, it's time to take them to the field! You'll want to make sure to only wear them for a fraction of practice to begin with, and slowly increase the time you wear them until you work your way up to wearing them all practice.

Now that you know how to pick them, it's time to start shopping! You can see our whole selection of boys and girls football cleats at our website; we carry a variety of brands and styles including Adidas, Nike, Under Armour and Reebok.
