12 ASTM Safety Boot Icons Translated

Safety is a top priority in the work place. To promote safety, standards have been developed for work boots and shoes. If you have had to buy a pair, which I'm sure you have if you're reading this blog, then you know the ASTM codes can get confusing. Safety footwear is labeled accordingly if it falls under a safety category. Below are 12 common ASTM protection symbols and their meanings. Zipper Inside Icon   1.)  The zipper of the boot or shoe is located on the inside.

Heat Resistant Icon   2.)  This indicates that the outsole of the boot is heat resistant. Against direct contact for short periods of time, it will protect feet up to 500℉. If contact with direct heat is prolonged, the effectiveness of the heat resistant outsole decreases.

Toe Protection Icon   3.)  This icon means the boot has extra toe protection, on top of increased safety performance. The advanced toe protection will not conduct electricity, is resistant against extreme temperatures, and is lightweight.

Static Dissipating Icon   10.)  The ESD symbol stands for static dissipating. This means the boot will reduced the amount of static electricity that accumulates by conducting your body charge to a grounded flooring system.

Electrical Hazard Icon   11.)  The EH symbol stands for electrical hazard. These shoes provide protection against live electrical circuits. They can resists up to 18,000 volts at 60 hertz for 1 minute with no current flow exceeding 1 milliampere in dry conditions.
